“Partnering for Prevention: Infection Prevention, Vascular Access and Patient Safety”

1) Review the day in the life of infection prevention and CLABSI prevention  2) Discuss how infection prevention data can influence the organization  3) Review a great success accomplished with collaboration.

“Infusion Confusion with Occlusion” 1)Participants will explore culture around peripheral infusions and why infiltrations/occlusions are so acceptable by healthcare, yet ultimately unacceptable. 2) Participants will discuss the root cause of two of the most common failures of PIV devices, occlusions and infiltration. 3) Participants will learn ways to reduce and eliminate PIV failures.

“Challenges in Emergency Vascular Access: Scientific Updates”

1)Critically analyze the most recent literature on emergency vascular access to determine the most appropriate and efficacious route for each patient.  2) Describe the physical properties of various means of vascular access and advantages and disadvantages of each type.  3))Describe challenges in end-stage vascular access and technical means of overcoming access problems.
